A Tea Poem
Jaded in green,
A leaf overturned,
Deliberately unseen,
Wanted to begin anew,
With a cup of tea,
Who is they,
Wanting to be,
Anything that already isn’t?
Blinded by a dreamworld,
Simplicity gone astray,
Feelings we heeled,
Hiding in broken screens.
I beg to pour,
An eye of prime,
For one that steams clean,
The future of time.
Poem Thoughts
With the increase of online acceptance and usage, thanks (I’m being facetious here, COVID is awful and I wish it NEVER happened…excuse my humor if you aren’t the dry humor type) to the current state of world health affairs. The general, worldwide human population is now exponentially connected via technology, such as EM waves and landlines.
Yet…what is this doing to our psychology? How is this changing the emotions we feel overtime? For one thing…because I feel this on a very large scale at times, overwhelmed. Access to trillions of gigabytes worth of data at your fingertips is a powerful tool. And, sometimes, a very destructive tool. I’m not here to say technology is bad. No, I love technology and think interconnectivity and the improvement of AI (artificial technology) will prove to be more beneficial than not in our future.
What I’m saying here is to know who you are and what you want before going and using technology. Having purpose. Not hiding behind a screen for an immediate dopamine release while our real life takes a turn for the worse.
I read about the metaverse today. How companies create virtual worlds where you can buy and sell virtual land, clothes, food…really anything you can find here in the real world. Very interesting. Yet, at the same time, that’s not real life. Having fun going on for maybe an hour a day for some stress release is one thing, and I’m fine with that. Going on for more time than that? Not healthy, in my humble opinion. And the metaverse is just another form of video gaming entertainment, similar to roomscape, SIMS, GFA…do I need to continue this list…
I feel like a part of us is lost whenever we, as humans, don’t interact face to face. Then again, I completely love working from home, so it’s a give and take. And the creation of the telephone, face timing for teleconferences, and text messaging all have their well-deserved, necessary place in this world.
But…nothing beats face-to-face human interaction. You get a wholesome full dimensional vision of how they are responding, the 10,000 plus expressions we can make with our face (YES! Look it up!), and physical touch, such as hugs, and, if you have an Italian great uncle like myself, a huge kiss on the cheek.
Sure, this may seem like a waste of time. Why talk in person when I can jump into this avatar, who depicts the person/thing I actually want to be? Life fulfillment. A life well-lived. That’s why.
That’s what this poem is about…living a life, not behind screens 24/7, but in-person. Joking and laughing with loved ones as the best form of entertainment.
